Fall is the time to snuggle up with a new book!
Fall is the season for reading! What better way to spend a nice afternoon than sitting in a tree house and reading? We strongly believe that enjoying good literature is the foundation of a life-long learner.
During weekends and evenings, please encourage your child to choose topics that they are interested in learning more about. Maybe reading books about faraway places, how to make or create something; or a biography about someone they look up to. After they read a book, ask them why they chose it, what did they learn from it, would they select another book by the same author, and who was their favorite character. Read along with your child, share reading by reading every other page, or simply read to your child. When you are on the road, remind your child to bring a book along for the ride. Remember that we are never alone when we have a book in our pocket. You can choose any book that is age and ability appropriate and that your child has an interest in reading. You can help your child make selections at the bookstore or visit one of the libraries in our area—Will Rogers Library (Claremore), Catoosa Public Library, or a Tulsa City-County Library.

Who works in the library?
Our librarian is Mrs. Payne. Our wonderful library assistant is Mrs. Davenport.
Who can check out books from the library?
All students can check out library books at Verdigris Lower Elementary!
Students in the 1st grade may check out one book at a time.
Students in 2nd-3rd grade may check out two books at a time.
Students may check out additional books with permission if they are doing a report, working on a project, etc.
How long may students keep a library book?
The normal check out period is two weeks. Students who need additional time with a book may renew it for an additional two weeks.
How are overdue books handled? And what if a book is lost or damaged?
There are no fines for overdue books but books that are permanently lost or damaged must be paid for.
When are students allowed to go to the library for check out?
Students may check out library books daily. Each class at Verdigris Lower Elementary also visits the library two times per week. One visit is a library class to participate in a story time or in a library skills lesson and the second visit is to check out library books.
